چکیده

Atmospheric nucleation rates have been shown to be dependent on sulphuric acid (H2SO4) concentration (Weber et al. 1996, Sihto et al., 2006; Riipinen et al., 2007; Kuang et al., 2009). However, laboratory experiments on H2SO4-nucleation have failed to reproduce ambient observations (e.g. Wyslouzil et al., 1991; Viisanen et al, 1997; Ball et al, 1999; Young et al 2008). Very recently Sipilä et al. (2010) showed that the disagreement between ambient data and laboratory studies is most probably related to improper experimental design and that sulphuric acid nucleation in ultra clean laboratory conditions can indeed explain atmospheric nucleation rates. If H2SO4 is responsible for the nucleation the first step should be formation of (hydrated) H2SO4-dimer which can and have been measured by means of chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CI-MS, Eisele and Hanson, 2000; Hanson and Eisele, 2002; Hanson and Lovejoy, 2006; Zhao et al., 2010).

Parasitic Effect of Tube Wall Longitudinal Heat Conduction on Cryogenic Gas Temperature

Longitudinal heat conduction is an important parameter in the cryogenic field, especially in cryogenic heat exchangers. In the present work, the parasitic effect of tube wall longitudinal heat conduction on temperature measurement has been studied in cryogenic laminar hydrogen flow. The effects of various parameters such as wall cold end temperature, wall thermal conductivity, gas volumetric fl...

Thermodynamics of the formation of sulfuric acid dimers in the binary (H2SO4–H2O) and ternary (H2SO4–H2O–NH3) system

Sulfuric acid is an important gas influencing atmospheric new particle formation (NPF). Both the binary (H2SO4–H2O) system and the ternary system involving ammonia (H2SO4–H2O–NH3)may be important in the free troposphere. An essential step in the nucleation of aerosol particles from gas-phase precursors is the formation of a dimer, so an understanding of the thermodynamics of dimer formation ove...

Experimental Investigation on Heat Transfer of Silver-Oil Nanofluid in Concentric Annular Tube

In order to examine the laminar convective heat transfer of nanofluid, experiments carried out using silver-oil nanofluid in a concentric annulus with outer constant heat flux as boundary condition. Silver-oil nanofluid prepared by Electrical Explosion of Wire technique and observed no nanoparticles agglomeration during nanofluid preparation process and carried out experiments. The average size...

Homogenous nucleation of sulfuric acid and water at close to atmospherically relevant conditions

In this study the homogeneous nucleation rates in the system of sulfuric acid and water were measured by using a flow tube technique. The goal was to directly compare particle formation rates obtained from atmospheric measurements with nucleation rates of freshly nucleated particles measured with particle size magnifier (PSM) which has detection efficiency of unity for particles having mobility...
